About Choi Kwang Do

Choi Kwang Do is a modern martial art that focuses on practical self-defence techniques, physical fitness, and mental discipline. What sets it apart from other martial arts is its emphasis on natural body movements and biomechanics. Rather than relying on rigid, traditional stances or forceful strikes, Choi Kwang Do encourages fluid, circular motions that align with the body’s natural movements, promoting less strain and a reduced risk of injury. It is also known for its holistic approach, integrating elements of physical fitness, such as flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular health, alongside mental aspects like focus, respect, and personal growth.

Choi Kwang Do History

Choi Kwang Do was developed in the late 1980s by Grandmaster Kwang Jo Choi, a South Korean martial artist. After studying various traditional martial arts, including Taekwondo, Taekkyeon, and Hwa Rang Do, Grandmaster Choi sought to create a more natural, efficient martial art that would be easier on the body while still being effective for self-defence. He combined his knowledge of human biomechanics with traditional martial arts techniques to create Choi Kwang Do, which focuses on the principles of leverage, balance, and fluidity of motion. The system has grown internationally, with schools in countries such as the UK, the US, and Australia.
